I've taken a lot of photos over the years on my way through the cities, towns, deserts, mountains, and parks of California and Nevada, usually from just right next to the road (or freeway or 4WD track or whatever...). Most of them were just snapshots taken with a DSLR or 35mm film camera to show family and friends what I was seeing, and the images shown here reflect that: they're just snaphots, mostly, and the quality isn't always the best. But they do show a few sides of California and Nevada that you might consider yourself lucky to either see or avoid (I won't say which is which), and that maybe show some of the bits of both states beyond the obvious places like San Francisco, Las Vegas, or Disneyland.
Currently there are two ways to view the gallery here: a simple but rather idiosyncratic Flash-based gallery, and an even simpler but more reliable Javascript based gallery. They both contain the same images, and both require Javascript and iframe support from your browser (which means that Firefox, IE 6 and above, and Safari all work fine under normal circumstances). The Flash-based gallery won't work unless you have a Flash plugin (which is easy to get from Adobe). Also, if you've got a slow connection, you may be better off not starting the slideshow and just browsing through the thumbnails manually or using the "next" and "previous" image arrows.
As this is a new part of the California Driving Guide, and may change fairly radically over the next few months, you should probably check back over time to see what's been added or changed; and in the longer term I'm likely to put up a lot more info about each image (especially where it was taken).
Now go and see the Javascript-based slideshow or the Flash-based slideshow....
